Treatment 0f Failing Dental Implant “BUILDING Bone around Implants”
Mucositis
Mucositis is characterized by BOP (bleeding on probing) and visual signs of inflammation. Peri-Implant Mucositis can exist around implants with normal or reduced support. Peri-Implant Mucositis is caused by bacteria and can be reversed with measures aimed at eliminating the plaque.
Peri-implantitis
Peri-implantitis is an infection that destroys the bone around the implant; it is one of the main causes of dental implant failure. The infection can form when the bacteria extends below the tissue and into the bone.
The dental cement, which is used to fix the crown onto the titanium post,- if the post is not designed properly- can also cause the infection when it leaks from under the crown and gets caught in the gums.
Smoking is the main reason for implant infection and failure. Failing implants can be treated successfully.
In some cases, we can totally regenerate the bone around the implant. The soft tissue and hard tissue grafting made the treatment of failing implants predictable and successful.
